Unleashing Your Creative Spirit
A Yoga and Writing Workshop
Led by Carolyn Flynn and Gloria Drayer
September 29, 2007
9:00AM to 3:00PM
A Time to Relax
11603 Menaul NE, Albuquerque
A body-mind-spirit approach to creative writing
Experience the creative synergy of body-mind-spirit work paired with writing. Discover the rewards of creating a yoga-and-writing practice in a supportive community.
Yoga activates the mind-body connection and enlivens your creative spirit.
Writing practice is a way to practice mindfulness, noticing with compassionate awareness the moments of your life as they unfold.
This is a way to come alive in your body, mind and spirit.
This workshop will allow writers to awaken in their bodies and tap into creative energy that they may not have known existed. It will allow yoga practitioners to experience what can happen in their lives when they channel the invigorating and relaxing feeling of yoga into creativity and self-reflection.
You need not have any experience in yoga or writing to attend this workshop. Workshop will include two yoga practices -- one active and one restorative -- and three writing sessions, time to reflect and share.
Bring a yoga mat and blanket, a blank notebook and a fast-writing pen.
$55 if paid in full by 9/15 $75 after 9/15

The Live Wire
For the past two years, I have taught the Live Wire workshop, and this one is always a hit. I have taught through WordHarvest, santafeworkshops.com, and Southwest Writers, southwestwriters.org.
Lots of workshops are being scheduled for 2007, including the Live Wire workshop and "Unlocking Your Creative Spirit." We are looking to pairing the "Creative Spirit" workshop with a yoga retreat in the spring.
We are also developing a Writer's Cafe, in which we help people workshop their manuscripts.

Unlocking Your Creative Spirit
Location to be announced, $75
This one-day workshop will help you tap into your creativity as a writer.
We are all creative, but often we push our creativity aside to tend to the
more urgent matters of life – making a living, raising kids, doing laundry.
But it’s easy to reclaim your creativity. It’s only a few deep
breaths and a fast-writing pen away.
Live Wire
Storytelling with Emotional Voltage
Half day, $45
Full-day, $85
Powerful writing comes from those deep places inside us. This workshop helps
you find the “live wire” in your writing. By learning to detect
it in your own writing practice, you can get to the heart of the story. This
workshop helps you find the emotional truth in your writing and unleash the
courage to go there. You will leave with a firm grounding in how to write with
urgency and clarity.
This workshop is taught as a one-day workshop or a six-week class. We
are taking names for a mailing list for a spring workshop. Email carolyn@carolynflynn.com.
Beginning fiction
This eight-week series will help you find your voice as a writer and hone
in on your unique style. You will get a solid grounding in the basics of craft – plot,
dialogue, character development, pacing, scene-crafting and point of view.
Get clarity on what you are trying to say and why. Get encouragement for plunging
forward.
This workshop is taught as an eight-week class. A more condensed version is
taught as a one-day weekend workshop.
Advanced fiction
This workshop will sharpen your skills in character
development, rhythm of language, scene trajectory and the art of revising.
This is where you will roll up your sleeves and put your story – and
characters -- to the test. You will learn how to craft epiphanies for your
characters and bring your stories to resolution.
This workshop is taught as an eight-week class. A more condensed version is
taught as a one-day weekend workshop.
Writing practice
After this class, you will never have writer’s block again. OK, you
will, but you will know exactly what to do because you’ll have the tools
to push through it, and pushing through writer’s block will become second
nature. Learn how to write in community. Learn how to discover your voice.
Learn how to mine your writing for the little gems. Learn how to identify the
themes in your writing that define your unique take on the world.
We are taking names for a mailing list for a spring series of workshops,
to be held in the Corrales bosque. If you are interested , email carolyn@carolynflynn.com . |
